Subaru Invests in Electrifying Lineup

Here at Herb Gordon Subaru, there are a lot of things we love about Subaru models. Style, affordability, and safety are all clear priorities to the brand, and with a recent announcement by Subaru execs, it's clear that alternative powertrains will also become a key feature as well.

A "shocking" announcement

According to Subaru Chief Executive Officer Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, the automaker is planning on making large investments in research and development towards creating electric powertrains for its existing models this financial year:

If there’s already an attractive Subaru model, for example the XV crossover, and if a customer in Beijing wants one but is only allowed to buy an electric vehicle, if there’s no electric version then he can’t buy it. Providing the choice of an EV means the customer can still desire the same Subaru.

Subaru goes a different direction

Although several other automakers pursuing electric vehicles have chosen to create new vehicles or even new sub-brands to better showcase their EVs, Subaru plans to take what it already has and add a little spark to it. In addition to developing electric vehicles, Subaru also plans to invest its R&D money in its EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology with an upgrade in 2020 that should allow for fully autonomous driving while on the highway.

Although we have some time to wait to see the fruits of Subaru's investments, the automaker's current lineup is still pretty exciting. To experience it for yourself, call, contact us online, or visit us in person at 3161 Automobile Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20904 today and schedule a test drive.
