Overview

Subaru rebuilt the Forester for a new generation of drivers that demand smart power and practical functionality. This latest iteration features the always-cutting-edge Subaru BOXER® engine, as well as state-of-the-art technology for efficiency, safety, comfort, and entertainment. It’s the midsize option from the brand, but it’s far too unique for labels such as SUV or Crossover. It’s the Forester, and it starts at a universally attainable MSRP of just $24,795.*

The Perfect Ride for…

The Subaru Forester is a legend. Fans of the Pleiades marque have always counted on the Forester to be the utilitarian of the family. It’s built for the doers of the world—people who want to have fun in life, people who don’t let ‘Dead End’ signs stop them from nature’s calling, people like you. But as a Subaru, it also offers all of the modern amenities you would want in a new model year, and this generation of Forester also offers cutting-edge style that’s sure to impress the fashionista as well as the pragmatist.

Power and Handling

The BOXER® engine sounds like something that belongs in a high-end sports car, and a few automakers have used a similar design. Its unique design lays out the pistons horizontally on either side of the crankshaft (instead of in a typical vertical or V-configuration above the crankshaft). This layout means a more balanced revolution around the crankshaft. The result is a noticeably more responsive acceleration that makes Subaru models so attractive to performance fans. In the 2021 Forester, the BOXER comes in the form of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that can produce a capable 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

That’s power you’ll enjoy on any terrain or road condition, thanks to the automaker’s also-legendary Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which comes standard in all trim levels of the Forester. Not only has Subaru built a reputation on confidence-inspiring driving because of this AWD system, today’s version features computer-driven intelligence. Subaru Intelligent Drive, another standard in the Forester, and the available X-MODE® work together to constantly monitor traction and adjust power distribution to ensure maximum grip at all times.

That’s also power you’ll feel good about, considering the multiple powertrain features that are always at work to maintain optimal fuel efficiency. Auto Stop-Start and a high-tech Lineartronic® CVT (Continually Variable Transmission) are two standard features that help capitalize on the Forester’s energetic output and make sure that none of that power goes to waste. The result is an enviable fuel economy at an EPA-estimated 33 miles per gallon on the highway.**

Key Features

Built For Gear

The Forester offers tons of ways to store your cargo, both inside and out. Subaru designers looked for every nook and cranny inside the cabin to create thoughtful ways to organize your stuff with pockets and compartments throughout and an innovative cargo area in the rear. The cargo area features grocery bag and tie-down hooks to secure the most variegated collection of accouterments. There’s also underfloor storage and removable cargo tray, offering an endless array of configurations, and loading up with your hands full is a snap with the available power rear gate with automatic close, lock, and height memory functions. On the outside, the raised roof rails offer a plethora of options for hauling extra equipment and even sleeping quarters for those overnight excursions to the middle of nowhere.

Built For Safety

The 2021 Forester also offers the latest in semi-autonomous driving technology from Subaru. EyeSight® Driver Assist suite of automotive safety features combines the power of the vehicle's external sensors and cameras with the onboard computer to constantly monitor the road from every angle and make split-second decisions to keep you and your passengers safe. Features include Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Highbeam Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure, and Sway Warning, Pre-Collision Braking System, DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System, and even Adaptive Cruise Control that can take over steering, throttle, and braking to bring your commute into the 21st Century.

Built For Fun

Finally, the new Forester offers a robust infotainment system that will please you and all your passengers. Subaru STARLINK™ includes connectivity options to smart devices, like USB, Apple CarPlay™, and Android™ Auto, as well as wireless tech like Bluetooth® and built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi. This comprehensive suite of features is easily controlled by multi-touch gesture controls on the standard 6.5-inch or available 8.0-inch LCD screen or using simple voice commands. For the premium sound experience, buyers can upgrade to the available harmon/kardon® sound system with nine powerful speakers connected to a 576-watt amplifier.

Alternative Options

While the Forester is a crowd-pleaser, Subaru knows each driver has unique needs. For more space, Subaru offers the Ascent, a full-size SUV that can do it all and still offer the efficient performance the brand is known for. For more speed, Subaru engineers pulled out all the stops when they built the BRZ, a lightning-fast coupe that has street cred as a track-trampling triumph.
