If you want a midsize sedan but also crave the surefooted prowess of all-wheel drive, the 2023 Subaru Legacy has exactly what you’re looking for. You’ll find the Legacy in five trim levels: Base, Premium, Limited, Sport and Touring TX. The Sport trim spices things up with red contrast stitching throughout its two-tone interior, 18-inch alloy wheels with a gray finish and a racy red flourish on the front grille trim. Meanwhile, the Touring XT goes all-out with a Nappa leather-trimmed interior, flashy 18-inch machined finish alloy wheels and a premium 12-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system. You’ll also find nifty features like dual-zone automatic climate control, rear-view camera, heated and ventilated front seats and keyless entry and start.
Drive and Handling
Depending on which trim you choose, you’ll have your choice of two engines: a 2.5-liter Boxer 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 2.4-liter variant of the same. The former comes standard on the Base, Premium and Limited trims and puts out an ample 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque while returning an impressive 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. If you’re looking for a bit more oomph, the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine is your best bet with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque on tap. Both engines feed their power through Subaru’s Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission. Despite having more power, this motor is just as fuel-efficient with EPA-estimated numbers at 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.
As expected of a Subaru, symmetrical all-wheel drive comes standard on all trims. So does Active Torque Vectoring, which allows for improved handling and cornering capabilities. Choosing the Sport trim also gives you access to SI-DRIVE® engine performance management with three different driving modes that change up the engine, transmission and throttle profiles for your motoring pleasure.
