What's New for 2024?

The 2024 Subaru Outback's rugged Wilderness trim gets some minor grille and front bumper updates that make it look even more as though it could climb the side of a mountain. Other than that cosmetic tweak, the Outback enters 2024 mostly unchanged.

Real World Performance

The 2024 Subaru Outback offers a standard 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine delivering 182 hp or the upgraded 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces up to 260 horsepower. Either way, the engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission. Like nearly all Subarus, the 2024 Outback comes with standard all-wheel drive. Although the turbocharged version of the 2024 Outback is noticeably quicker, the standard engine option delivers impressive fuel economy, especially when you consider the off-road capability. However, those requiring more towing capacity will likely find the turbocharged engine option to their liking.

The 2024 Outback offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is likely enough for even muddy or rough terrain. But for drivers concerned about clearance, the Wilderness model takes it to another level, with 9.5 in. of ground clearance, robust skid plates, and a more muscular suspension.
