Modified Subaru WRX Sets Four-Door Lap Record at Nürburgring
New record of 6:57.5 for the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special
Thanks to the engineers at Prodrive, a specially modified WRX STI called the "WRX STI Type RA NBR Special" took home the four-door lap record at Germany's world-famous Nürburgring race track, beating out the Lamborghini Aventador SV, Mercedes-AMG GT R, the Dodge Viper ACR, and the current generation Porsche 911 GT3.
Herb Gordon Subaru has more details on it for you here.
600 horsepower and a top speed of 179 mph
The team at Prodrive spared no expense in converting the WRX STI into a time-attack race car. Everything from the car's motor to its tires were modified. In the end, the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special boasts 600 horsepower and 650 pounds of extra downforce at top speed (which has been upped to 179 mph). Add in Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, and the WRX practically leaves a flaming trail in its wake.
A glimpse of what's to come
But Subaru didn't break a record just to break a record. As Subaru Product Communications manager Dominick Infante said:
We brought the WRX STI Type RA NBR Special here to set a record and call attention to the WRX STI Type RA that we will launch later this year. The WRX STI Type RA promises a great deal, with improved performance and styling and even better handling dynamics than the current car.
We can't wait.
